Hey everybody it’s Barret Davies from Meditek. And today we’re going to be talking about Gel Pads.
And in particular we’re going to talk to you about the different things that you should be looking for when you’re going to make that gel pad purchase. The first thing I want to talk about is just the different types of gel pads that are out there. Most commonly, you’re going to find gel pads that are made of either soy or silicone/latex. And then a little bit less common, you’re going to get water-based gel pads, and then you could also get gel pads that are actually incorporated with foam in them or around them.
And a couple of things just to note that if you are going to go with the foam gel pads, you’re going to be losing any type of manoeuvrability. And you know because they’re going to be sturdier. And if you’re going to go with a water-based gel pad, then you just have to make sure that if the gel pad does get punctured, it’s not going to leak water all over the place. And you know silicone/latex, a lot of allergies out there so you just want to be very careful that the allergy content of the silicone or latex is pretty low if you are going to go that route.
The last one, just like our Relaxa Gel pads here, is soy-based. And that’s another option that you can definitely go with. And also, you want a gel pad that will not absorb any liquids or odours. We’ve heard tons of horror stories from people who had gel pads that they’ve reused over and over again. And every single time it gets a new odour added to it. And by you know the umpteenth time, you got umpteenth amount of odours, and it’s not pleasant for anybody.
You want to look for a gel pad that the surface of it mimics fatty tissue. This will definitely help prevent any types of lesions or sores from forming. And you want to make sure that when you know the gel pad doesn’t bottom out. So, for example, I’m going to press this as hard as I can right now, and I can’t touch my fingers together. So that is really going to help with you know keeping bony premises from getting to the surface of the table.
And also, if you can see here. You can’t even see where I was pressing it. It goes back to its original shape. And that’s super important because if you’re going to be using these things over and over and over again, you want it to be like it’s just out of the box every time you use it. So, that’s definitely something to look forward to.
You want to look for a gel pad that is image-friendly. And also you want to look for a gel pad that can be heated or cooled, over and over and over again without losing its composition. So that is super important that’s going to tell you about its longevity. But that pretty much wraps up about gel pads. Just make sure that you know if you cover those couple of things that we went over in the video today, I think you’ll be getting a quality gel pad for sure.
So, thank you for joining me, and I hope to see you again.
